Next time, must do warm up before starting to play. Not young anymore sia. Sigh. Internet Explorer 8 Released! Microsoft finally released the final version of their much anticipated Internet Explorer 8. You can download the installer by clicking here. Nothing really special about it really. The interface is quite similar to IE 7 but with a few extra buttons here and there. Bird Shit Walked into the office today and my boss's PA looked at me noticed I had bird shit on my shoulder. Singapore = World's 10th Most Expensive City According to the article here, we are the world's 10th most expensive city. That also makes us the 3rd most expensive country in Asia! Don't know whether to be proud or disappointed. If only our salaries were also among the top in the world... Adobe Seminar Attended an Adobe seminar called "The Power of Cross Media Workflow with Adobe's Web and Video Technology". Quite a mouthful eh? Anyway, the first half of the seminar was really interesting. The Australian presenter presented the latest Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash and showed us what each of them can do and how they can work together to make graphical and web development a breeze. During the Photoshop demonstration, the presenter opened up a uge JPEG photo which was taken with a 400 mega pixel camera! The photo itself came to about 1 gigabyte in file size! That was insane! But the quality of the image was top notch. Wonder how much such a camera will cost. Then he even showed us how you can import 3D Studio Max files into Photoshop CS4 and edit the 3D object there. Oh yeah. The presenter also advised us not to use the option "Save for Web..." option in Adobe Photoshop. Instead, we should open up our PSDs in Fireworks and export them. The reason being that the file sizes of exported images are way smaller than those exported from Photoshop! So, if you have lots of images on your web site and you export your images as he recommends, your web site and its images will download a lot faster. How much faster I am not sure though. So many of us are on broadband and I think the difference will be quite negligible. However, I think its a good practice. Have to think of those people who are still stuck with that old 56k modems. So, what did we get from the seminar? Some useful tips, knowledge on the new Adobe products and 3 trial DVDs of the various Adobe products that were featured in the seminar (Photoshop CS4, Dreamweaver CS4, Flash CS4, Premiere Pro etc). They all have a 30 day trial period however. If anybody wants to try these Adobe products out, just tell me. Staff Day At Sony?! Just great. I go down to Sony Gallery at Wisma Atria to get my handphone serviced and its closed! The staff pasted a piece of A4 paper informing people that the are going to be closed at 5:30pm today until Wednesday. Crap lah. Now I have to make another trip down to Wisma Atria again on Thursday. Sianz. Weekly Roundup Time! Another week is about to end and its the start of a new month. My Sony Ericsson w580i has another problem again. Last year, it was the cracked keypad. Got that fixed for free since it was still within the one year warranty. This time, its the cancellation button on the left hand side and the up button on the central directional pad. The worse part of it all is that the phone's warranty has expired last year and now if I want to get the problem fixed, I will have to fork out quite a bit I think. Going to the Sony customer service centre tomorrow night after work and see how much they guys at Sony are going to charge me. Too bad the handphone contract has not expired yet. Otherwise, I will go and look for a new phone to sign with a recontract at a lower price. Oh yeah. Having a blast playing Dawn of War 2. Great graphics and lots of action! Worth the $54 I paid for it. The only problem I have with it at the moment is the flickering ingame Divx encoded cutscenes. The weird part is that when viewing normal DivX videos in Windows, there are no problems. The moment I load up Dawn of War 2, the videos start flickering. From the introductory cutscene to the video background in the planetary screen (where you can choose which misson to undertake and what equipment your squads will bring down to the planet during each mission). The developer who I communicated with in the official forums said that since I have no problems viewing DivX videos in Windows, then it could be the DivX decoder DLL file which they have bundled together with the game. My machine just does not like their decoder he theorizes. He said he will look into it but I have no heard anything from the developers at Relic Entertainment. Sigh. |
