Tag It!Terminator Salvation Really looking forward to catching this movie since they announced it last year. So, I was so impatient that I felt I had to watch it on the opening day.
The beginning of the movie was a bit confusing. I was left wondering how it relates to the rest of the movie but near the end, its true meaning is revealed. Action sequences were good but too few in my opinion. Wished there was more fighting between the human resistance fighters and the Terminators. The story is set in 2018 and it is not very far from Judgement Day, so the humans are still using modern day weapons like M4 Carbines, GPMGs, Black Hawk helicopters and even A-10 Thunderbirds. As usual, SkyNet iss way more advanced than the humans in terms of weapons technology and the humans seem to be losing the war. Expect large explosions, lots of gunfire and lots of people dying and stuff like that. The story is easy to understand if you have watched all of the three previous Terminator movies. It is necessary as the movie does feature a few of the major characters in the Terminator lore. In fact, I think you need to know the back story to the Terminator series to fully understand what is going on. I usually get this question if understanding of the story from that TV series called The Sarah Connor Chronicles is required. The answer is no. The whole movie does not even make any mention of any events in that TV series. Just the major movies. This is the second time I actually get to see that many Terminators without their skin covering. After watching all the Terminator movies, I still get the awe and fascination I have of seeing "naked" Terminators walking steadily and purposefully towards their objective of terminating somebody. The shiny exoskeleton with their exposed servo-motors, hydraulics and those meancing red optical eyes that can track humans in the dark. Great action scenes but could use more. Some knowledge of the history of Terminators and its major characters and events is required in order to fully understand and enjoy the movie. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Go catch it. MPV? This is a conversation I had with my friend just the other day. Let's call him Friend A. We were talking about going to have Swenson's breakfast on a Sunday morning. Me: That sounds like a great idea! Friend A: Yeah! Let's call Friend B too! Me: Hmm...I think have to call his wife along too. Friend A: Yeah hor... Me: ...and also get Friend C! Friend A: So, whose driving the MPV? Me: *sudden realization that none of us has an MPV and Friend A's car is rather small* WTF lah! First it was my Sony Ericsson W580i that spoilt last year and it was after the warranty had already expired. Just to replace two bloody buttons, they wanted to charge me $138! Siaoz! So I changed back to using my back up handphone. The Sony Ericsson k750i. Just yesterday, it too decided to die on me. When you switch it on, the Sony Ericsson green globe appears then...NOTHING HAPPENS! Its like it hangs at the screen and nothing else happens! I was hoping the k750i could last me until June when my current contract hits the 21 months and I can purchase a new handphone with contract with no additional costs. Now, I am using some super ancient Sony Ericsson handphone that I borrowed from my parents. Its so ancient that even they do not know the model number! WTF lah. =( Special Day For... ...Mr and Mrs Lee!!! Congratulations! If you are wondering who are Mr and Mrs Lee, they are Wei Ming and Shihua!! Attended their marriage solemnisation and wedding dinner held at The Goodwood Park hotel. The poolside terrace to be exact. Luckily for the newly wed couple, the weather was pretty good despite a heavy downpour in the early afternoon and the presence of dark clouds lingering throughout the rest or the late afternoon. Food was nice! Especially the durian puffs! They were overflowing with the durian cream! Heard from some one that they were the hotel's trademark dessert. Oh yeah. Forgive the lack of photos. I forgot to bring my camera. =p Argh We seriously need better workstations in the office. The current workstations are having trouble with the new Adobe CS4 products. Laggy, not enough RAM and occassional crashing. What the hell man. Star Trek XI I am not a Trekkie. (according to Wikipedia, a Trekkie (or Trekker) is a term used to describe a fan of all or part of the Star Trek fictional universe.)
With that out of the way, it is time to review the movie. The 11th instalment of the Star Trek movie series directed by J J Abrams is a reimagining of Star Trek. In particular, the main characters and technology of the Star Trek universe. From simple things like their hand held phaser pistols to the starship Enterprise. They have all been redesigned to give a more real-world look and feel. If you have ever watched a single Star Trek episode or earlier movies, the first thing that will hit you is the industrial influences. Gone are the posh interiors of starships. No more carpeted floors. No more clean walls except in certain areas like the bridge of the Enterprise. The engineering section looks more like the interior of a factory with smoke and pipes everywhere. Thick metal beams stretch from floor to high ceiling. Audiences will be thinking to themselves that it is all not fantastically futuristic but rather something that you can related to in our present day. If you think that you definitely need to be a hardcore Star Trek fan to fully enjoy the movie, you are wrong. Okay. Perhaps a bit of knowledge about things like why Vulcans suppress their emotions and embraced logic or what are warp drives and phasers is required but not really that critical. It is obvious that some effort has been made to make the movie easily understood by a mass audience and not targeted solely on Star Trek fans. The story itself is so-so. An evil alien and his crew have come from the future seeking revenge on a peaceful Federation in the past and only James Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise can stop him. In all this, Kirk and Spock, who are like polar opposites in thinking and characters, have to put aside their differences and work together with the rest of the crew. Some funny moments are scattered throughout the movie too like Kirk taking it easy and munching on an apple during a simulation examination of a battle that no one has ever passed to is constant efforts to find out Uhura's first name.
Action is aplenty with bar brawling, sword fights, phaser pistol shootouts and spectacular ship to ship combat. Lots of CGI effects too like torpedoes impacting on ship's hull to the destruction of an entire planet. Its a special effects galore. My conclusion? It is watchable. 3.5 out of 5 stars. And no. I am not a Trekkie. Fantastic NBA Match! This is definitely one of the best matches I have ever seen on NBA. During the playoffs between the Chicago Bulls and the Boston Celtics. Three OTs!!! X-Men Origins: Wolverine Went to watch this movie with my friend at Kallang Leisurepark. Slightly cheaper than watching at Golden Village cinemas. It was a good thing I booked the seats online. When we entered the cinema, it was fully packed. Well, as far as I think I can see because it was rather dark in the theater.
As the title suggests and from the various sources about the synopsis on the internet tells us, it is about the story of Wolverine. From the time when he was a young boy all the way to the present day. If you think the beginning is going to be very slow as it drags on about his childhood to teenager and onwards, you are going to be pleased to know that it is not. Just short scenes of his childhood to flashes of him participating in some of the major wars in our history. It then quickly advances to present day where he settles down with his girlfriend only to see her dead body and later going for revenge against those who killed her. The movie is very action packed once the present day story starts. Lots of stabbing, slicing, crunching, explosions and out-of-this-world stunts and mutant powers everywhere. The fighting scenes are exciting and really cool. The story line and dialogue are about average. Its not one of those mindless action movies like the galactically horrible Street Fighter and Wing Commander (doubt you guys have ever heard of that movie though). Overall, I will give it 4 out of 5 stars. Nothing is perfect, yah? =p |
